Comparing Decimals: Tenths
Ages 9–11 · 5 minutes · Math
Compare decimal tenths using <, > or =
Students compare two decimal numbers to the tenths place by examining digits from left to right, place by place, and record their comparison using <, > or =. Students will practice with pairs like 0.6 and 0.8, building fluency in reading place value correctly. Along the way, students confront a common misconception: that more digits after the decimal point always means a greater value. By the end of the lesson, they'll be able to confidently compare prices, measurements, and scores in everyday situations.
