Same Perimeter, Different Area

Same Perimeter, Different Area

Ages 8–11 · 7 minutes · Math

If rectangles have the same perimeter, do they also have the same area?

Students will look at situations where two rectangles have the same perimeter and determine whether or not they have the same area. This exploration will help them understand that perimeter and area are two seprate concepts, and the lesson will conclude with a real-world application problem about optimizing space.
