This lesson introduces remainders for the first time, building on the same Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Bring Down cycle students learned in the first lesson. Students work through two-digit-by-one-digit problems where the final subtraction doesn't reach zero, learning to record what's left over as "R ___." The bakery theme frames the leftover amount as the baker's own treat, so the remainder feels like a natural part of the answer rather than a mistake.
